Indigenous People: Ating Kababayan ating Isalba, Pinoy ako, Katutubo ka, Tayo'y Iisa.
I. TITLE: Indigenous People: Ating Kababayan ating Isalba, Pinoy ako, Katutubo ka, Tayo'y Iisa.
II. BACKGROUND: The Philippines is considered as an archipelagic country, meaning that the Philippines consists of many islands and mountain ranges, we're also known to be rich in natural resources. The Philippines is also rich with its cultures that our ancestors passed through generation by generation. Indigenous people have been contributing to our economy and society, as they embody our culture, preserve our past practices and enriches our country's history. They are distanced from modern society, they're living in remote areas where they are unreachable and can't be contacted.
The problem is some organizations/officials plan to come up with projects that build infrastructure/establishments in remote areas for development and upgrading, in those areas where the indigenous people live, occupying and invading the space of the Indigenous people ignoring their human rights and liberty, replacing them forcibly in a different kind of environment and giving then a lifestyle that they are not used to. There are also some cases of discrimination and abuse against Indigenous People, because they say that they are "nothing and incapable", the others violate their rights, believing that there is no place for them in modern society, they are marginalized by the people.
III. AIM: This campaign aims to achieve equality and protection to Indigenous people who are also normal humans. The rights and proper treatment that the city born citizens are getting should be equal. They should be included in projects that aim to help helpless people, they are normal people, if we're aiming for unity, there should be no exemptions. We're going to give knowledge about the importance of everyone's existence, there should be no boundaries and hindrances that prevent Indigenous people from expressing themselves and sharing their unique abilities. By that, we're going to create a safe space for indigenous people for them to share their thoughts and practices, where they are free to express themselves without worrying about discrimination and oppression.
IV. OBJECTIVES:
Raise Public Awareness: We're going to provide facts and information about Indigenous people, that they're not different and how they contribute to our country's culture and history.
Providing Basic Needs: They're supplies are limited since they live in the mountains. That's why this objective aims to provide materials and foods for them to use in their daily needs, like cleaning, water, clothes and foods.
Proper Education: Everyone has the right to education and to learn, they also need knowledge for them to interact and to have something to use for communication, also this will help the other Indigenous people to have opportunities and achieve their dreams.
Protection against Discrimination: We want to give them peace and quiet in their lives, and the type of living that the city born citizens are having. We'll provide protection to let them express and provide opportunities to have a successful life.
Giving Opportunities: We will provide a program that promotes labor experience and skill enhancements. A livelihood program for them to get exposed to a modern life, introducing them to different kinds of jobs to open new possibilities and to have an income.
Land Protection: We'll help them fight for their home, where they live and learn, unleashing their ability to fight back against the officials, replacing them in other places they're not used to. Their rights to contradict with the decision of the officials, and without being labeled as low class people.
V. TARGETS:
Indigenous People: They are affected in this issue in terms of their life status, physical appearance and their personality. The people often marginalized them and labeled them as low class people, their home is often taken away from them due to their incapability.
Department of Justice: Since the Indigenous people are discriminated and abused, we will cooperate with the justice system to provide protection if other officials are taking advantage of them. The law will protect their rights in property and basic human rights.
Department of Social Welfare and Development: We will coordinate with this department for labor and every individual's growth, for them to unleash their potential and abilities.
Department of Labor and Employment: We will work with this department to help us to provide work and jobs for our indigenous people, for them to grow and have income, to use for their personal needs.
The Public: We will spread awareness to the public about their lives and status, for them to know to be more sensitive and to help us execute this program with donations.
VI. PARTNERS:
The Public and Community: We will raise awareness and information about the goal, for them to engage with this program to help us raise the money needed, for this to be published and work.
Tuklas Katutubo (Indigenous People Advocacy Group): They represent a proper presentation and recognition of the indigenous people which will help us to gain more attention.
Local Government: Since they have the power, they will be helpful for this project to be more effective and to reach the majority of our indigenous people groups all over the country. Also, the departments under them will contribute to our indigenous people's skills and knowledge.
